Colour Me Positive – 2016 Weekly Journal Challenge

Seven weeks ago, I joined a weekly journaling group out of Australia called Colour Me Positive. Each week we receive a quote from the organizer that inspires our journal page for that week. The group members are encourage to share their art journal pages on the closed FB page. There are more than 3200 members from all over the world.

We are on Week 7 and I am thoroughly enjoying the journey. This week’s quote was from Confucius – “Wherever you go, go with all you heart.” It just happened that on Thursday morning, I discovered a heart-shaped leaf on my patio. I took a picture of it with a tag that says “gift of love” and altered that original photo using a number of apps on my iPhone. One of my favorites is called SuperPhoto. I also used PicMonkey. Using the altered photos and the original, I composed a page inspired by the quote, the original photo and, of course, the upcoming Valentine’s Day. I  used old dictionary pages, acrylic paint, photo corners and rubber stamps. I have to say, I am very please with the final piece and am thinking of framing it.IMG_8817. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Tiny Houses

This week I spent a day with my friend, Cheryl Lindsay, a mixed media and jewelry artist (her work is featured in the latest issue of Stampington’s Jewelry Affair and HOME magazines) making small houses from templates gathered from a variety of resources. You’d be amazed at how many house templates you can find on the internet, particularly Pinterest. Using my passion for collage, I started one house that day, another the next day and finished both last night. I think you’ll be able to guess which one is my favorite. I love working with found items and pages from old books and old dictionary pages. It helps to have the right tools – a good Xacto knife, a metal ruler, sturdy chipboard, and lots and lots of random pieces of “junk.” I encourage you to try your hand at creating your own tiny house.
